Many children develop imaginary friends as companions, rivals, or to cope with a traumatic event. These children usually grow out of the phase around the age of ten.
But what happens to the imaginary friends themselves, once that phase has passed?
Dr. Paige Andrews developed a theory over a course of several years that made her a mockery in the psychological field. She proposed a theory that these individuals eventually materialized as real people after the children outgrew them.
